Le projet EVA rassemble plus de 200 historiens de l’art et du patrimoine représentant les 46 États membres du Conseil de l’Europe. Il est dirigé par un comité éditorial composé de 6 spécialistes européens de renommée internationale et bénéficie du soutien de l’association internationale des Instituts de recherche en histoire de l’art (RIHA). Sa coordination scientifique et opérationnelle est assurée par l’Institut national d’histoire de l’art (INHA) à Paris.
Pour la première fois, ce projet permet d’écrire une histoire polyphonique, multilingue, inclusive et transnationale des arts visuels à l’échelle de l’Europe continentale, de la préhistoire à nos jours.
