St George’s Church in Drohobych is one of the most famous examples of Ukrainian wooden architecture. It is situated in the historic part of the city near the old salt works and forms a cohesive artistic ensemble representing the architecture, monumental art, easel painting and decorative and applied arts of the 17th–18th centuries. The sculptural perfection of its architectural forms, the expressiveness of its murals and the richness of its iconostases have always captivated visitors. It is no wonder that the renowned 20th-century Ukrainian art historian, Hryhorii Logvyn, described the church as ‘a poem in wood’.
